Phoenix, AZ - August 24, 2010 - Phoenix NAP®, a next-generation datacenter and network access point, announced today that Hurricane Electric, a leading Internet backbone and colocation provider, has established a point-of-presence (PoP) within the Phoenix NAP facility.
“Having Hurricane Electric operate a PoP out of our facility presents a tremendous opportunity for area and regional businesses to obtain quality connectivity solutions. Featuring one of the top ranked international Internet backbones in the world, Hurricane Electric can help our clients meet their transit needs, and we’re happy to have them in our datacenter,” said Ian McClarty, president of Phoenix NAP.
Hurricane Electric offers IPv4 and IPv6 transit solutions over the same connection, at speeds up to 10 Gbps or more. With its own global network, the company has 45 major exchange points with connectivity to more than 1,500 different networks. Employing resilient fiber topology, Hurricane Electric has at least four redundant paths crossing the United States, two separate paths between the U.S. and Europe, and rings in Europe and Asia.
Hurricane Electric first deployed IPv6 on its global backbone in 2001. It is one of the few global Internet backbones that is IPv6-native and does not rely on internal tunnels for its IPv6 connectivity. IPv6 is offered as a core service and every customer is provided IPv6 connectivity, as well as classic IPv4 connectivity. Hurricane Electric connects to more than 900 associated IPv6 backbones.
“Hurricane Electric is excited to start this long term strategic partnership with Phoenix NAP, said Martin Levy, Director of IPv6 Strategy at Hurricane Electric. “This relationship will improve fault tolerance, load balancing and congestion management infrastructure capabilities for the delivery of next-generation IP access services.”
As a network access point, Phoenix NAP strives to offer its customers a vast array of network connectivity solutions. Clients of the datacenter can select whichever option(s) best meets their needs, and can work directly with a provider, such as Hurricane Electric, or with Phoenix NAP’s carrier neutral sales staff to get service.
