Fremont, California - January 15, 2002 - Hurricane Electric, a leading Technical Service Provider, announced yesterday that it has completed its acquisition of Lightning Internet Services, a New York based Internet Service Provider. Hurrican Electric has acquired the rights to all of Lightning Internet Services facilities, customers, equipment and the option to assume specific contracts.
"By acquiring Lightning Internet Services, we can now broaden our colocation and web hosting services to New York and surrounding areas," said Mike Leber, president of Hurricane Electric. "This acquisition will allow us to better serve our customers on the East Coast and in Europe with the addition of offices and personnel in New York," he added.
Existing customers of Lightning Internet Services should not experience any interruption of services or problems associated with the acquisition. Rates for existing customers will remain the same; however, Lightning Internet Services' customers will have newer higher bandwidth options available to them, some at a reduced rate.
Hurricane Electric's national network, which consists of connections in seven exchange points, including MAE-West in San Jose, CA; PAIX in Palo Alto, CA; AADS in Chicago, IL; NYIIX in New York, NY; and MAE-East in Vienna, VA. will be augmented by Lightning Internet Services' existing network. Lightning Internet Services operated their own national network with a concentration on the East Coast.
The acquisition adds offices in Mineola, NY and Farmingdale, NY to Hurricane Electric's existing facilities in San Jose, CA and Fremont, CA along with equipment in New York, Washington DC, and Sunnyvale, CA and San Jose, CA. Lightning Internet Services was formed in 1998 as a full-service Corporate Network Solutions company specializing in colocation, direct Internet connections and DSL. Hurricane Electric will continue to offer DSL, colocation and direct Internet connections in New York and surrounding areas.
